As a business owner, have you lately felt that you are in less control of your business?

New guidelines are being implemented and spending habits of customers are changing. It’s causing waves in every industry. However now is the time to take control. When a business owner has control positive, results usually happen. There are seven areas that you need to master to take back control. I made an acronym for these seven areas (Clarity, Opportunistic, Navigate, Track, Review, Organise time, Laser focus).

C= Clarity

What’s happening has never happened before. There are so many people that have an opinion on what to do next and what the results will be. Newsflash, if it’s never happened before, nobody is an expert on this. What you need to do as a business owner is to get back clarity. You decide what you are going to do with your business because nobody else can decide for you. The times may be different, but you still need to decide how to reframe your business. Know your destination.

O= Opportunistic.

Did you know downtime is the best time to find opportunities?

No matter how your industry was before the shutdown, there all going to be fewer businesses in your industry afterward. Some companies will survive just by focusing on just keeping the lights on. However, those who focus on thriving will be able to not only weather the storm but will come out ahead. So look around, observe what is going on in your industry right now. There could be an opportunity there and you need to take advantage of it.

N= Navigate

The path that you used to take before has changed, it is going to be a much bumpier ride. But keep moving forward and look out for obstacles in the way. Always take action. But have a purpose and preplan for everything you do. What result do you want to achieve this month? Set up milestones and goals along the way.

T= Track

Every action you take has a result. Collect as much information and put it all in a notebook or journal. Keep track of:

  • How well is your plan going
  • What’s working
  • What’s not working
  • What obstacles are appearing
  • Anything new that’s going on that you didn’t think of before

Write it down and do this every day because it is fresh in your mind.

R= Review

Review your whole week, read the different notes from each day, and make note of any patterns. You have to look to see what things you need to do and what needs to be changed. If it needs to be changed you have to adapt your plan or strategy for the next week.

O= Organized time

Time is precious, especially now. The more organized you are, the higher your success rate will be. Organize your day, organize every aspect of your business. The best way to organize is to implement systems. Click here to learn more about systems.

L= Laser focus

The more laser-focused you are, the more you can accomplish in a certain amount of time and you will be amazed at the results.

During times like these it is important to not only take care of your business but to take care of yourself and your loved ones.

I know I just said a lot of areas, and there are more details in every single area. But this is a great process to take control back. There are indeed a lot of things you can not control right now. However, there is also a ton that is in your control. If you can control the things that are in your control, it’s going to be easy for you to handle the things that are out of your control.
